You should have received a letter/consent slip giving your child permission to take part in the evening performance. Tickets cannot be collected without a signed consent slip. Ticket allocation is 2 tickets per family per performance. Unfortunately, we have had to limit the number of tickets due to health and safety reasons, as we can only have a limited number of people in the hall. Hopefully this will enable you to watch the performances in comfort. Raffle tickets will be sold and drawn at each performance. Tea, coffee and mince pies are also on sale at each performance.

Please note: tickets are required for every performance.

SAFER INTERNET USE - TIKTOK

This might be of use to parents – information on another popular social media app.

https://www.saferinternet.org.uk/blog/what-tiktok-looking-latest-lip-syncing-app

This used to be known as Musical.ly. I mentioned last year, this has a 13 age restriction and can be open to inappropriate images and videos. There are age restrictions for a reason.

ROBLOX

This is another app which parents have expressed some concern over. I also mentioned this last year. It is a very open site and anyone can get into it. Unfortunately, some of our parents and children have seen some inappropriate images on this. Always watch what your children are playing on. Sadly, the reality is, you are only 4 clicks away from something inappropriate.

FORTNITE

I know you are all very aware of the general risks and concerns around children playing the online game Fortnite, which has a 12 rating but is frequently played by much younger children. I have been made aware of an emerging trend, where people are playing strip Fortnite using webcams, where the rule is that when you achieve a “kill” you have to strip off, potentially adding an additional risk from children being exposed to and/or sharing indecent images whilst playing the game. Please be vigilant.

The internet is an amazing tool as long as it is used safely. Our rules in school are, zip it, block it, flag it.

BALL BEARINGS

One of our primary Heads has made me aware that they have had an issue in their school this week with children putting magnetic ball bearings in their mouths to look like they have piercings. Children have accidentally swallowed the ball bearings which in some cases, can lead to them requiring surgery. Apparently, it’s a problem nationally – please see the link below.

PARENTS & FRIENDS – BAG 2 SCHOOL/FOOTBALL CARDS

Our Parents & Friends have arranged for the school to take part in a ‘Bag 2 School’ scheme to raise funds for school.  Children have been sent home today with a plastic bag which can be filled with any unwanted clothing.  It’s a great way for school to raise money for equipment for school; it also feels good to be green. The programme teaches our children about the importance of recycling and re-using.  It makes a real impact by reducing the amount of textile waste in our landfills.  Please return any filled bags to school on Monday, 12th November by 9.00am.  Extra bags can be obtained from the school office. Thank you.

Next week we will be sending the children home with a football card and it would be great if every child could fill it over the half term.  Teams are £1 each and when the card is full, £20 should be given to the winner and £20 should be returned to school in an envelope with your child’s name and class on.  This is a fun way to raise funds for school and we hope everyone will try to fill a card.  Thank you

SCHOOL NURSE DROP IN

Tuesday, 16th October at 3.15pm will be our first ‘Drop in’ session with the school nurse.  This is a great opportunity to discuss any medical worries you have about your child. For example, eating habits, toileting, weight issues, head lice, puberty or managing medication.

MEDIQUIP4KIDS NON-UNIFORM DAY

Friday, 19th October will be a non-uniform day in aid of MedEquip4Kid.  MedEquip4Kids is a children’s charity raising money to provide paediatric medical equipment and facilities for hospitals and community health teams.  Children can come dressed as ‘Doctors/Nurses or Patients’ and we ask that every child brings a donation of £1.  Thank you.

SAFETY OUTSIDE SCHOOL

I know I mention this a lot, but please drive carefully outside school. Those parents who do 3 point turns in front of school need to stop, it’s extremely dangerous and you could really hurt a child. Also, allow Shirley to cross your child safely across the road rather than between parked cars. Thank you.

BOOT CAMP

You may have noticed that we hold a Boot Camp each Monday. This is for year six in the afternoon and for staff and parents after school. It runs from 3.15 - 4:15pm - £5 a session. It is excellent and if more people attend then the cost could potentially reduce. At the moment just staff attend, but you are all more than welcome.

ATTENDANCE CERTIFICATE

The attendance certificate for last week was won by Sparrows class with 100% attendance.  Well done to all Sparrows class.   Overall attendance for the school was 97.9%.

FOREIGN COINS

I’m sure if you are anything like me, you have foreign coins from holidays past, lying around in drawers at home.  Parents and Friends have organised for school to take part in a scheme where we can exchange any unwanted currency and use the money to buy things for the children.  From Monday there will be a collection box in the front entrance where you can donate any coins.  Thank you.

PARENTS & FRIENDS

Our first meeting of this school year will be next Thursday, 4th October at 6pm in The Gallows.  This is a very informal meeting for parents to get together to organise and plan fundraising events for the school.  It would be great to see some of our new parents.  Everybody welcome.

INDIVIDUAL PHOTOGRAPHS

On Tuesday, 2nd October, the photographer will be in school to take individual photographs of the children.  If your child has a sibling who does not attend Crossgates and you would like a family picture, you can bring them to school from 8.30am. Children who have siblings in school will have their picture taken together during the morning.  Children can bring brushes into school so they can brush their hair before the photograph.

FLU IMMUNISATION

The Screening and Immunisation and Public Health Commissioning team at the Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership are currently carrying out a review of the school aged immunisation services across Greater Manchester. We are looking for feedback from parents around their thoughts and experiences of the current programmes. We have a parent survey currently live, and would appreciate if you could take a look. The survey is short and should only take a few minutes to complete. Thank you.  https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/YPSOJ/ (Parent survey)

NEWSLETTER BY EMAIL

From next week, anyone who has requested that they receive the weekly newsletter by email will no longer receive a paper copy.  If for any reason you do not receive the newsletter by email, please see Mrs. McGuigan in the school office.  Additionally, the newsletters will be  on this page of the website.  Spare paper copies can always be found in the spare letters area in the front entrance.

DINNER MONIES

Our children from Finches to Owls 2 class make their dinner choices the day before, eg. Monday for Tuesday, Friday for Monday etc, and as soon as they do, the online system will debit their account if a school meal is selected.  This may be the reason some parents are getting reminders of overdue payments.  Please bear with us, we have contacted Eduspot and hopefully these glitches will be ironed out soon.

INTER-SCHOOLS CROSS COUNTRY

On Thursday, 4th October some or our year 3 and 4 girls and boys will be taking part in an Inter-schools Cross Country Competition at Holy Trinity, Littleborough (you should have already received a letter if your child is involved).  Please feel free to come along and support our team.
