Letters to Parents

Crossgates Primary School September

Dear Parents/carers,                                                                                                                                                                                                  16th July 2021

As you will be aware, some restrictions are lifting next week. Within schools nothing changes until September. So, on Monday and Tuesday, you will all still be required to wear a face mask in the school grounds and all staff will continue to wear them in school.

We must all remember that Covid hasn’t gone anywhere and is very unlikely to. We just have to learn to live with it and I want to continue to keep our school as safe as possible.

In September, there will be some changes, but some things won’t change as they have worked better during the last 18 months. The priority, as always, for this stage is to continue to ensure Crossgates is a safe place of learning for pupils, staff and the community. We also have to have an outbreak management plan and be ready to change things very quickly if needed.

We have been told that bubbles are no longer required and that if there is a positive case, then children will not be sent home. I am really hoping that it works well. We do not want to send children home to isolate. More information will come through over the holiday.

Children tell us that they like playing in smaller groups as they can find their friends to play with.  They also like having a less crowded playground.

With this in mind, children will be in larger groups for playtimes and lunchtimes, but not the whole school.

Reception will all play together.

Year one will all play together.

Finches, years two and three, will all play together.

Falcons, Eagles, Kestrels and Owls, years four, five and six, will all play together.

The start of the day has been much calmer over the last 18 months. So we will continue with staggered arrival times to ease congestion. The children have arrived in their classrooms ready to learn and are more independent.

Parents, please continue to follow the one-way system and drop your child off at the gate. Wooden gate for year one and reception, large playground gate for years 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.

Arrival times for September are:

Finches and Robins – 8:40

Falcon, Eagles, Kestrels and Wrens – 8:45

Owls 1 and 2 and Sparrows – 8:50

Registers will close at 8:55, so all children must be in by then.

End of the day collection times:

Finches and Robins – 3:10

Falcons, Eagles, Kestrels, Owls 1, Owls 2, Sparrows and Wrens – 3:15

If being collected by an adult, all children must be collected from the small or large playground. Please do not hang around school. Only one adult to collect each child or family of children.

Large playground – years 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6

Small playground – reception and year one.

These are the measures that are still in place:

  • Staggered arrival and end times.
  • Extra cleaning during the day.
  • Staggered lunch and playtimes.
  • No changes to lunchtime as it works very well.
  • One-way system outside school for parents and children.

  • Adults continue to keep a social distance.
  • In the classroom, children will sit in groups, but continue to have their own equipment provided by school.

I would also like you to commit to the safety of pupils and staff in school by:

  • As a family take part in twice weekly LFTs.

  • Thoroughly clean lunch boxes every night.
  • I would still encourage you to wear a mask in the school grounds until things settle.
  • Ensure your child has washed their hands before they leave the house in the morning.
  • Keep to the one-way system outside and don’t gather at the gates or in the playground.
  • Only one adult to one child or family of children.
  • Stick to your drop off and pick up times, this is really important to reduce congestion.
  • Collect your child at the end of the day from the playgrounds.
  • Do not enter school, please phone if you need to talk to somebody. Appointments will be made if necessary.

The extended day will continue, but the focus will change to well-being, sport and creative activities. These will start WKB 13th September until 4pm. Please encourage your child to stay, they will enjoy and benefit from it.

Monday – Finches and Owls

Tuesday – Sparrows and Wrens

Thursday – Falcons, Eagles and Kestrels.

We are really looking forward to a good rest over summer and a more peaceful year from September. Have a great summer holiday and if things change over the summer, I will let you know via text or email.

Best wishes,

Mrs Norton
