 ATTENDANCE CERTIFICATE

The attendance certificate for last week was won by the Eagles class with 98.7% attendance.  Well done to Eagles class.   Overall attendance for the school was 96.65%.

This year’s Christmas performances are as follows:

You should have received a letter/consent slip giving your child permission to take part in the evening performance. Tickets cannot be collected without a signed consent slip. Ticket allocation is 2 tickets per family per performance. Unfortunately, we have had to limit the number of tickets due to health and safety reasons, as we can only have a limited number of people in the hall. Hopefully this will enable you to watch the performances in comfort. Raffle tickets will be sold and drawn at each performance. Tea, coffee and mince pies are also on sale at each performance.

 Please note: tickets are required for every performance – afternoon and evening.

 

MOVING HOUSE/CHANGING TELEPHONE NUMBERS

There have been several instances recently when we have needed to contact parents and the contact numbers we have on file have not been current.  It is extremely important that we have up to date emergency telephone numbers and current addresses on file.  If you move house or change your number, please inform the school office immediately so that we can update our records.  Thank you

GENERAL ELECTION – SCHOOL CLOSURE

Unfortunately, the school will be closed on Thursday, 12th December as it is being used as a Polling Station.  I apologise for the short notice and any inconvenience caused, but it is out of our hands on this occasion. This is due to the timing of the general election being announced.

CLUBS

Due to poor weather and darker nights most after school clubs are now cancelled until further notice.

The only clubs that will run will be – Ed-Start, French and Karate. Breakfast and after school clubs will run as normal.

 

ATTENDANCE CERTIFICATE

The attendance certificate for the week before half term was won by Rosefinch and Goldfinch classes with 99.3% attendance.  Well done to both Rosefinch and Goldfinch classes.   Overall attendance for the school was 97.55%. 

 

#BE KIND

Monday, 11th November is the start of #Be Kind week. We are encouraging the children to wear odd socks, especially on the Monday. The odd socks represent that we are all different. During the week the children will work on being kind and what to do if someone bullies you.

 

LUNCHTIME SUPERVISOR JOB VACANCY

Calling all Mums, Dads, Grandmas, Grandads, Aunties, Uncles and friends.  Do you have a spare hour or two at lunchtime and would like to earn some extra cash?  Would you like a rewarding, enjoyable job with 13 weeks holiday a year?  We currently have a vacancy for a Lunchtime Supervisor. The hours are Monday to Friday 12.00 - 1.15pm, term-time only with lunch provided.  If interested, please contact the school office for more details and an application form.  Please note any appointment is subject to the relevant checks and DBS clearance. The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

 

CHILDREN IN NEED

Friday, 15th November is Children in Need day. 

This year children can come in colourful clothing or just dressed in their own clothes.  We would like the children to bring a donation of tinned or packet food as once again, we will be supporting Rochdale Foodbank.  There will be a bake sale on the day – 20p per cake and there is a colouring completion – 50p per sheet.

There have been some changes over the holiday to the school grounds. The equipment outside, which has started to rot, has been removed. This will be replaced during the year. We have also added extra security to the small playground, so that visitors, arriving during the school day, are not walking past children playing.

ENGLISH EVENINGS FOR PARENTS

Wednesday, 6th November, 6pm – Finches.

Thursday, 7th November, 6pm– Year 1 from Sparrows and Wrens.

During these evenings you will be given advice about how to help at home and shown what we are teaching in school. You won’t be made to do any English! Please come along, they will be useful.

COLDER, WETTER WEATHER

Now the weather has sadly changed for the worse, please ensure your child is sent to school in appropriate warm/waterproof clothing and footwear for playtimes and lunchtimes. 

 

CAPTAIN’S TOP TABLE

From this week Sue, the school cook, will select a child from every class to sit at the ‘Captain’s Top Table’ on Friday lunchtime. If your child is chosen, they will receive a certificate to bring home.

RUNNING LATE

If for any reason you or the person who is collecting your child is running late, please try to call school at the earliest opportunity.  Recently we have had several calls at 3.15pm and by the time we get to the classroom to deliver the message, some of the older children may have already left the classroom, it is then difficult to try and catch them before they leave the school grounds.  Thank you.

NEW TEACHER

As you will be aware, Mrs. Kapler will be going on maternity leave. We held interviews this week and I pleased to announce that we appointed Miss. Bradley to teach the Falcon class from 2nd December. She is an experienced teacher and will come into school to get to know the children.

 INDIVIDUAL PHOTOGRAPHS

On Friday, 4th October, the photographer will be in school to take individual photographs of the children.  If your child has a sibling who does not attend Crossgates and you would like a family picture, you can bring them to school from 8.30am. Children who have siblings in school will have their picture taken together during the morning.  Children can bring brushes into school so they can brush their hair before the photograph.

  

PARENTS & FRIENDS

Our first meeting of this school year will be on Monday, 30th September, at 5:30pm in school.  This is a very informal meeting for parents to get together to organise and plan fundraising events for the school.  It would be great to see some of our new parents.  Everybody welcome.

  

START OF THE SCHOOL DAY

Children should not be dropped off at school and left alone before 8.45am.  As a school we are not insured for children to be left alone in the playground and we do not have the resources to man it before school starts.  If you need to bring your child to school before 8.45am, they must attend Breakfast Club.  Thank you

  

HOLLINGWORTH ACADEMY OPEN EVENING

On Wednesday, 2nd October, 5:45 – 8.15pm, Hollingworth Academy will be holding an Open Evening for parents of Year 6 pupils.  All parents and Year 6 children are invited to attend.

Our children from Finches to Owls 2 class will now make their dinner choices the day before, eg. Monday for Tuesday, Friday for Monday etc, This will mean that as soon as they do, the online system will debit their account if a school meal is selected.

CHANGE OF DATE – I have changed the Kingswood meeting for year 4 parents to the 1st October, because it clashed with the Hollingworth Academy Open Evening.

 

KIDDITCH DAY

On Monday, 23rd September, we will be taking part in a Kidditch. This will be a Harry Potter themed day, where the children will learn to play Kidditch. This is a form of Quidditch, but without the flying! On the day your child can come dressed you as a character from Harry Potter, but if they don’t want to, they can just wear their own clothes.

  

SCHOOL COUNCIL ELECTIONS

On Thursday, 26th September, we will be holding School Council elections. If your child would like to be a School Councillor, please encourage them to prepare a short talk for their class about what they would like to do for school, make posters and maybe badges to wear on Election Day. We will be using official polling booths and ballot boxes.

 

 PARENTS & FRIENDS

MACMILLAN COFFEE MORNING

On Friday, 27th September from 9.00am, we will be holding a Macmillan Coffee morning in the school hall. Please try and come along and support this fantastic cause.  Everybody welcome.
