EXTENDED DAY AFTER EASTER

Now all the children have settled back in, we are extending the day for all year groups, except reception. This is to ensure they are ready for the curriculum next year. We are not calling it catch up as that is very negative. It will just be for one day per week until 4pm. We will ensure the children have a break before they start their extra session.

Monday – Sparrows, year two, year five and Owls 1

Tuesday – Wren year one children

Thursday – Year three, year four and Owls 2

This will start straight away from 19th April. Please collect your child from the normal collection place at 4pm.

LATERAL FLOW TESTS

Many thanks too to all the families taking part in twice weekly LFTs. We have been asked that you continue this over the Easter holiday and continue reporting.

COVID

I am required to track and trace at the start and end of the holiday.

If your child tests positive before the 6th of April, or during the last week of the holiday, please email me at head@crossgates.rochdale.sch.uk

I really hope we all manage to have a Covid free Easter break.

POLLING STATION/POSSIBLE CHANGE TO HOLIDAY DATE

You will be pleased to learn that I have managed to stop the school being used as a Polling Station again this year. However, there is a possibility that it may have to be used next year.  Voting day is usually the first week in May and with that in mind, I would need to move the Inset day from June to May to facilitate this. This would mean that we would return from half term on Monday, 6th June instead of Tuesday 7th June. Please note this is only a possibility at this stage, but I thought it only right to let you know in advance, should you wish to book any holidays next year.

EASTER HOLIDAY

Just a reminder that we finish for Easter next Thursday, 1st April and return to school on Monday, 19th April

I hope you all have a great rest and stay safe.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate in ringing school.

SYMPTOMS COVID 19

Could we please remind parents that if anybody in your family or bubble has booked a Covid Test, you MUST NOT send your child to school.  Please inform school immediately and your child can only return to school if the result is negative.  Please email me straight away on head@crossgates.rochdale.sch.uk

This is especially important over the Easter Break.  Emails are checked every day, even Saturday and Sunday. This will help to support the hard work we are doing in school to prevent bubble closures. Important information for school is when symptoms started.

  • If it is positive, the whole family and anybody who has had contact 2 days before; must isolate for 10 days.
  •  LFTs can be used by families, as well as staff. They can be collected from:

Middleton - in the marquee on the Market Place Car Park next to Middleton Arena, Old Hall Street, Middleton M24 1AG.

Heywood - Heywood Civic Centre, LCpl Stephen Shaw MC Way, Heywood OL10 1LW.

If your child has any of the symptoms listed below, you must book a PCR test.  LFT tests are only for detecting asymptomatic cases.  We have to rule out Covid first. Many of you have done this in the last two weeks and I thank you.

The easiest way to book a test is online: https://www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test

There are still the 3 main symptoms, but children can present with other symptoms.

Here is a list:

  • Fever or chills.
  • New loss of taste or smell.
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing.
  • Fatigue/Muscle or body aches.
  • Sore throat.
  • Congestion or runny nose.
  • Nausea or vomiting.

Let’s all work together to keep the bubbles open.

Many thanks too to all the families taking part in twice weekly LFTs. We have been asked that you continue this over the Easter holiday and continue reporting.

              RED NOSE DAY

What a fantastic response!  I realise it was very different this year but so far we have raised an amazing £554.  There is still time if you would like to make a donation to our JustGiving page by clicking here:

Thank you for all the support.

NON- UNIFORM ‘WEAR YELLOW - SPRING DAY’

On the last day of term, Thursday 1st April, children can dress in yellow or their own clothes to celebrate spring day.

ARRIVAL TIMES AT THE START AND END OF THE DAY.

I apologise if the next section seems negative, but it is feeling very busy outside school, especially at the end of the day. I just want to ensure we are all safe.  The idea of the staggered start and end to the day is to avoid congestion.  Some children and parents are still arriving too early. I have listed the times below and ask that you stick to these, you don’t need to arrive early as children have a 10-minute window to get into school. At the end of the day, arrive at your pick up time. We won’t let your child go without you.

Please follow the one-way system and drop your child off at the gate.  Wooden gate for Reception and Year 1, large playground gate for Years 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.

Parents of children in Falcon, Eagle and Kestrel classes, please stand away from the school in the section of playground opposite your child’s class.  Parents of children in Sparrow class, please do not arrive until 3:20pm.

There are a lot of parents standing at the gates with dogs. It is not a big enough space to keep a social distance. The reason we don’t allow dogs on site is because some children are scared of them. For a child to be then faced with a few dogs to walk through is even more frightening. I know you are bringing them out for a walk, but please do not congregate at the gate. It defeats what we are trying to achieve.

Remember:

  • Siblings arrive and leave together – earliest arrival and collection time.

    DOWNS SYNDROME DAY

National Downs Syndrome Day is on 21st March. As this is a Sunday we will celebrate it in school on 22nd March by wearing odd socks for the day. During the day the children will find out about Down Syndrome and listen to some success stories of children with Downs Syndrome. The reason we are doing this, is because next year we have the privilege of educating a young child with Downs Syndrome and I believe it is a good idea that the children have some understanding.

Welcome back to school, it’s great to see almost everyone again.   Unfortunately, we are missing some of our Year 2/3 Keyworker children as sadly their bubble went last Friday. Once they return after isolation on Monday, we will be back to full capacity.

Children have settled in really well and school feels ‘normal’ again. I would just like to say a big thank you to you all for supporting school during these difficult times and I really do appreciate everything everybody has done and achieved so far this year. If your child is worrying about anything, please contact us.

Let’s all work together to keep the bubbles open.

(Rochdale - in the car park at Rochdale Leisure Centre, Entwisle Road, Rochdale OL16 2HZ has now been reverted back to a PCR testing site full time and is now NOT supplying the kits).

  •  Please do not park or drop off on the zig-zags outside school. They are for the protection of all children in school.

NEW CHICKS

I am pleased to announce we have several new additions to school – the chicks have hatched!  We have 24 fluffy little yellow chicks in the Robins, Wrens and Sparrows classes.  We will be taking them to the other classes so that everyone can see them.

LAPTOPS/CHROMEBOOKS

If your child has borrowed a laptop/Chromebook for home-schooling during lockdown, they should have now been brought back to school.  If you haven’t yet done this, please bring back to school by Monday, 15th March.

Please ensure the laptop/Chromebook is returned with all the packaging and accessories i.e. charger and case (if given).  Thank you

Friday, 19th March 2021 is Red Nose Day.  This year we will be doing things a little differently. Children can come dressed in their own clothes or red on the day and there will be a special buffet lunch. Unfortunately, we won't be able to sell the red noses or cakes and biscuits at break time. So instead we have set up a Just Giving page.

You can help Crossgates raise money for this great cause by donating directly to Crossgates fundraising page -

https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/crossgates-primary-school-rednoseday21?utm_source=Sharethis&utm_medium=fundraising&utm_content=crossgates-primary-school-rednoseday21&utm_campaign=pfp-email&utm_term=15597059466e4a5897d9bb9823fe5e7d.

JustGiving sends your donation straight to Comic Relief: Red Nose Day and automatically reclaims Gift Aid if you are a UK taxpayer, so your donation is worth even more.

We hope you will help us support this fantastic cause.  Thank you.

SCHOOL DINNERS/BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS

Could I please remind you that payments for school meals or before/after school clubs should be made in advance, either on the day or for the week, month, term.  If you have any problems using our online payment system, please call the school office.  Thank you.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate in ringing school.
