 Dear Parents/Carers,                                                                                                                      20th July 2022

As another school year draws to a close, I would like to thank you all for your continued support. Your children have done so well this year and made great progress in many ways. This year has been far more normal for the children, which has been good.

We all wish the year six children all the very best at high school, we know they will do very well indeed. They have been an amazing year group and their end of year show was truly fabulous. I had the privilege of watching it three times! Their final song will be recorded and uploaded to Google classroom – just the audio version. Photographs will be on the website by tomorrow.

Over the summer, we have work being carried out in school. The toilets for the children are being revamped and made much better for the children. An electronic gate will be fitted to the front of school so that visitors will need to buzz to come up the main path. I know that this is something that was requested in previous parent questionnaires. Also, parts of the school will be painted.

Reading for pleasure is part of our new school impact plan for next year. This can be found on the website. You may have noticed the outdoor classroom is being made into a Reading Shack. In September, there will be reading sheds with books in and beanbags for children to sit on whilst they read. This will be for playtimes and during the day.

As part of this, I want to initiate surprise readers of the week, to come into school and read to a class. This will happen each Friday at 2:45. This can be anybody and staff will move around school to read to different classes. I would also like parents and grandparents to get involved too. If you would like to be a surprise reader next term, either once or every week, please get in touch with me in September. It would just involve you reading a children’s book of your choice or one from school to a class. Staff will stay with you and support you.

If you do volunteer, keep it a surprise for your children. I think the children will really enjoy this and it would give you an opportunity to come into school. I am excited by it and I really hope we get some volunteers. You can make it as exciting as you like!

Dinner money

From September, dinner money will be £2:50 per day, £12:50 per week. I know this is a price increase, but they are still good value for money. Reception, year one and two are still entitled to free meals.

Cups

In September we will go back to children having cups in school for water. We will provide the cups, so no need for a water bottle.

PE kits and uniform

In September, children will still come to school in their PE kit on PE days. We will let you know when their day is. During the first week back I would like children in full uniform every day.

PE kit:

Trainers

Blue or black plain leggings or jogger

Plain white T-Shirt

School jumper.

Moses school wear are going to start selling a Crossgates hoodie for PE if anybody wants something different for the PE day. They will be ready in 2 weeks.

Remember PE day is not a wear what you want day.

As we are using the hall again for PE, all children will need a black pair of pumps in a pump bag to be left in school. Please write your child’s name in them.

Uniform

School jumper/ cardigan/fleece

White polo shirt

Grey/black/blue trousers, shirt or pinafore.

Shoes must be black or plain black trainers, nothing else. Velcro shoes are best for younger

Water safety

Please remind your children not to play in open water without supervision. Canals and lakes can be deadly. The cold water shock is something our bodies cannot cope with. Please reinforce this with older children who are out by themselves. I have talked about this in assembly. Let’s keep safe.

COMPETITIONS

On Monday, Harry, Ava, Thomas and Archie played guitar in the music festival and won. Congratulations to all four of you. They represented school very well.

In the evening, some pupils in years 4, 5 and 6 took part in an inter-school athletics competition. They did extremely well. Individual children were positioned either first, second or third in races, throwing and jumping events.

Overall, the under 10s won their competition, over 10s came second and Crossgates pupils won the overall competition. It was a great sporting night and good fun. Even Crossgates parents won the majority of the raffle prizes, maybe because Mrs Whittaker was selling them and they bought the most! Well done. A great day for school and we are very proud of every child who was involved. Thank you to parents for your support.

SUMMER FUN NIGHT

What a fantastic night and we were so lucky with the weather!  Thank you for all your support, we raised a fantastic £2243.00. This money will be used to revamp all the reading corners in school. Many thanks.
