FIDGET SPINNERS/POPPETS

We have had several instances of children bringing these items into school to play with.  Please keep these items at home and do not bring them into school.  The only things children can bring into school are their book bag, lunch box and water bottle. Nothing has changed. Thank you.

BIKE-ABILITY

Year six will complete level 1 and 2 bike-ability over two weeks. They will be taught in a group of 6 for a whole day. More information about your child’s day will follow after half term.

Week 1 21st – 25th June

Week 2 28th June – 2nd July

Current year 4 and 5 children will take part in bike-ability in September:

13th – 22nd September  new year 5 children

23rd September – 4th October  new year 6 children.

We do have quite a few children now cycling to school without helmets. The children say it is at home or I don’t have one. A helmet will not save their life at home or in the shop. It is so important that they wear one for their own safety. I don’t know about you, but I see more dangerous driving on the roads than I have ever done. A child could easily be knocked off their bike.

COVID RESTRICTIONS

Things may be lifting in the community, but nothing has changed in school around the restrictions and rules we have in place. They are very unlikely to do over the next few months. There has been an increase in adults and siblings collecting children without masks and in groups. Only one person is permitted to collect a child or family of children and masks must be worn by all adults, unless exempt. Once children have left the school building, all families must leave the site immediately. Many thanks.

YR 6 SWIMMING

Owls 2 class will start their swimming sessions when we return after the half term holiday.  Please see the session dates below:

Owls 2

Thursday, 10th June

Thursday, 17th June

Thursday, 24th June

Thursday, 1st July

Thursday, 8th July

The lessons will take part at Rochdale Swimming Baths and the children will be taken by coach, at no cost to you.  The children will be in the pool for one hour and the idea of these sessions is to turn swimmers into better swimmers and non-swimmers into swimmers. This is a great opportunity for the children.  The children will need a swimming costume, a swim hat and towel; there will be an instructor and a life guard at the swimming pool.

SATS WEEK – YEAR SIX

Please note that week commencing 14th June our year 6 children will be involved in SAT’s tests. We are doing this to give the children the experience before they leave school. SATs haven’t been completed for 2 years. It will be very informal and nothing to worry about.

Monday, 14th June                     –          Spelling Punctuation and Grammar tests

Tuesday, 15th June                    –          Reading test

Wednesday, 16th June                –          Maths papers – arithmetic and paper 1

Thursday, 17th June                   –          Maths papers 2 and 3

You are working away from home.

You have a sudden or planned admission to hospital.

You have to care for other relatives.

There are many reasons why your child/ren may have to be cared for by other family members or friends.  It is important that we know. Many thanks.

Dear Parents/Carers,                                                                                                                                                                                                 14th May 2021

Over the last two weeks I have spent more time in every classroom. I just wanted to share with you how well your children are doing. I am so impressed with their adaptability, focus and sustained concentration. They really are doing very well. It has been an absolute pleasure to see how well they have bounced back, not just academically; but socially and emotionally too. I am extremely proud of every child and you must be too. Well done children, parents and staff.

SWIMMING

Swimming is part of the National Curriculum and the only subject that will save your child’s life. It has been disrupted massively due to Covid. This year we are taking year 6 children as a boost before they go to high school.  Next year we will be offered a recovery plan to try and catch up on the older children who have missed out.  In the meantime, swimming lessons are back open and so are family swims. It is such an important skill to learn and enjoyable for the whole family too. Children have missed out on so much over the last 14 months and this is important to get this going again. If you can, book in for swimming lessons or go for family swims, it will help your children before they start swimming in school and if you manage to go on holiday again.

  • A plain full T-shirt with shoulders covered
  • Joggers, leggings or shorts

  • Trainers

It is still a normal school day for the children. Football shirts, crop tops or vests must not be worn.
