COVID OUTBREAK

As you are all aware, we have had an outbreak this week. We now only have 3 full classes and 3 part classes left. We are not the only school affected in this way and I have been told by public health that Milnrow is a hotspot at the moment. It has affected both staff and pupils. Luckily the pupils are well and have few symptoms. My staff have been poorly, but are on the road to recovery.

It is more important than ever, not to send your child to school if they have symptoms or are just not themselves. The last group to be sent home will be isolating until 23rd December. After today, if a class closes, the isolation period will lead to Christmas eve and beyond. I really don’t want to inform groups that they have to isolate over Christmas.  If your child is now isolating at home, please ensure that they are sticking to this isolation period. I am fully aware of how hard this is. I am so sorry that your children are missing the Christmas week in school, but their safety is more important. In the New Year, we will organise a New Year party when they can wear their Christmas jumpers again and have some fun.

Please encourage your children to complete Google Classroom and join the daily meeting. I know that some of your children find it hard. Online learning will continue all next week and available for all children if they are not in school.  We will invite them on Friday to an online Christmas party!

I am aware that some of you will be concerned about sending your children back to school on Friday 18th after their isolation. I fully understand, maybe I shouldn’t be saying this, but if you don’t want to send them back I will continue that day as isolation. Just let the office know in advance please.

CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY PERIOD.

Up until Christmas eve I will be tracking and tracing children. If your child goes for a test or tests positive please email me at head@crossgates.rochdale.sch.uk I will check my emails every morning.

Also, from the 26th December, if your child tests positive, please email me. It won’t affect classes, but it will affect your child returning to school as they will be still isolating.

CHRISTMAS DATES

Wednesday, 16th December – Christmas dinner, Christmas jumpers can be worn again.

Friday, 18th December – Christmas party day with a party lunch. Party clothes can be worn.

EDSTART SPORT CLUB

Monday’s after school EdStart Sport Club for Years 4 & 5 is cancelled until the New Year. The first session will be on Monday, 4th January 2021.

CATCH UP LESSON

WKB 14th December -there will not be any catch up lessons after school, children will be tired by then and I want to reduce the number of contacts.

First two weeks in January – Finches and FEK will not be having catch up lessons after school as they will be staying in their own classes.  I expect we may have a rise in cases so we need to be extra careful during this time.

Christmas cards

I will start by apologising, but this year please don’t send your children into school with Christmas cards. Instead, we are being really positive about this and will be doing e-cards and messages with the children. All will not be lost! E-cards and messages will be placed on Google Classroom as well as photographs and videos.   The children will be doing individual class performances for Christmas and it will be recorded and put on Google Classroom for you to see. No costumes to buy!

Music teacher

Yesterday the children in years 2,3,4,5 and 6 met Mrs. James, our new music teacher. Miss. Richards will be leaving Crossgates at Christmas.

STAGGERED STARTS AND ENDS TO THE DAY.

It is feeling a bit busy at the end of the day, so from Monday, Falcons, Eagles and Kestrels will be finishing at the slightly later time of 3.10pm.

Finches and Sparrows:                        8:45am – 2:55pm

Wrens:                                                  8:55am – 3:05pm

Falcon, Eagle and Kestrels:                8.55am – 3:10pm

Owls and Robins:                                9:05am – 3:15pm

Remember these are arrival times and collection times. Let’s try and avoid the long queue that forms at 8:40 and avoid arriving too early. There are a lot of parents arriving too early and waiting in the playground. This defeats what we are trying to achieve. Also, only ONE ADULT is allowed to pick up a child or family of children.

           CALLING ALL CRISP LOVERS

Did you know it takes 80 years for a crisp packet to decompose? Did you know that 150 of them can be ironed and turned into a survival blanket for a homeless person and will help to keep their sleeping bag dry and insulated?

We are taking part in this initiative and are collecting crisp packets to be made into blankets. We will have a collection box in the hall at lunchtimes for those children who bring crisps in their packed lunch.  You could do this at home too, but send the packets off yourselves. Thank you.

NON-UNIFORM DAY

As you know today is CHILDREN IN NEED DAY and we are supporting this event by asking everyone to donate £1.

CHRISTMAS

So many of you are so generous at Christmas in buying staff Christmas presents and we really do appreciate this. This year I am going to say please do not do this. I would prefer that you spend your money on your own families, lockdown has been tough for many. We are also not allowing the children to bring anything into school, so it would be very unfair of me to say, you cannot bring sweets in for your birthday, but you can bring presents in for staff!

I hope that you understand the reasoning behind this decision, but hopefully we can make the rest of Christmas as ‘normal’ as possible.

LOCKDOWN

As you know we are all in lockdown, but for school it is business as usual. We are extremely positive about this and want all the children to remain in school. Please don’t be afraid to send your child to school, but also, follow all the guidelines to enable school to stay open and safe. Whatever you may hear in the press, believe me when I say, we want school to stay open.

To help us in school:

  • Send your children clean to school each day and wash their hands before they leave home.
  • Only use their book bag for their school book and diary.
  • Clean packed lunch boxes every night.
  • Follow the one-way system outside school.
  • Wear a face mask when dropping off and collecting your child.
  • Stick to drop off and collection times, don’t come too early.
